Following the publication in 1991 of research originating from Oxford Nutrition, the stability of L-glutamine (a ‘conditionally essential’ amino acid) in parenteral and enteral mixtures has been well defined. Important clinical results demonstrating improvements in patient outcome resulting from L-glutamine supplementation have since been published. Speciality amino acids, trace elements, antioxidants and other small volume injectables have also been developed for hospitals.

Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) Products

Since the original development of the first 3 litre TPN  bags used in the UK, Oxford Nutrition has pioneered other novel designs such as 4 and 6 litre bags for 48 hour adult feeds and multi-layer plastics for extended stability of ‘All in One’ feeding mixtures. Over 60% of TPN bags used in the UK are now multi-layer plastic and Oxford Nutrition has a significant market share. The availability of computerised TPN compounding equipment and disposable accessories that facilitate preparation of neonatal and paediatric nutritional regimens has further expanded sales in the Hospital and Home Care markets.

The company can now provide an extensive range of compounding equipment ranging from filling sets/compounding burettes to the fully automated AutoComp 6 compounder.
